I emailed Stephen Bates (The Guardian, England). He replied he's hoping to write about the case next week.

Embarrass Watchtower-- visit http://quotes.watchtower.ca
or:
JWs--Why doesn't WT want you to visit http://quotes.watchtower.ca?
or:
Why is WT embarrassed when JWs visit http://quotes.watchtower.ca ?

I was told this story about Carey Barbour by a friend who says he heard it first-hand (or should that be first-ear?):
A black lad who was a newbie at Bethel was at Barbour's table. "Pass the salt, boy," said Barbour to the newbie. Feeling this was an unintended racial slur, the newbie said, "Pardon, what did you say?" "Pass the salt, ni**er," retorted Barbour. Deathly silence round the whole table. Barbour continues unperturbed.
Can anyone confirm this story is accuate?

Re: *PLEASE READ* GOD VS. THE GAVEL: RELIGION & THE RULE OF LAW
by AndersonsInfo inmarci a. hamilton is an internationally recognized constitutional expert specializing in church/state relations.
professor hamilton's new book, god vs. the gavel: religion and the rule of law is one of the brightest lights on the horizon in a difficult time of prosecuting religions that cause harm.
ms. hamilton states -- "while religious conduct provides many benefits to society, it is not always benign.

Thank you for mentioning this. I've ordered it from my library but it will take a few weeks to arrive.
Ms. Hamilton zones in on Jehovah's Witnesses on pgs. 14, 15, 20, & 25-27 of Chap. 1. She states in part on page 14-15:
Sorry for being so pedantic, but may I just check whether this is chapter 2 or chapter 1? (While waiting for the book, I'm including your quotes in some notes I'm writing up and need to have accurate references.)
I'm looking forward to reading the book. Thanks again.

Fascinating development in sex-abuse cases!
by hornetsnest ini dont get on here very often, but when i saw this i figured that you would like to know about it.
it seems that the catholic church here in oregon (u. s.
) is doing everything possible to shield its assets from the sex-abuse liability they have incurred.

Hi Potleg,
Chitty lived in London Bethel for around fifty years before moving to Brooklyn to join the GB. His last thirty years in London he lived with his homosexual lover, Edgar Clay, like two old poofs in a retirement home. However, that didn't stop him also liking the young boys, especially in the sauna.
This is from Chitty's life story:
*** w63 2/15 p. 118 "In Pleasant Places" with Jehovah’s Organization ***With an older brother and a boy friend I attended some talks being given by the Bible Students, as Jehovah’s witnesses were then known... Then, too, in Bethel itself there is the opportunity of entering into a real friendship... Then, too, I have had the same friend and roommate for the past thirty years or more, Brother Edgar Clay, whose life story you may have already read; but now we share a lovely room, a most pleasant home with a fine view facing south, and an extra window looking out to rising fields and trees and the setting sun in all its glory.
I guess we lived in more innocent times back then and nobody recognised the signs in time.
Sorry you're still hurting. Have you tried finding a good therapist?

WT Literature Gems ...
by ithinkisee in.
i got an original 1/1/89 wt - which says that the end would come before 2000 - before they changed it in subsequent bound volumes and cd-rom w/out telling anyone.. i also got a 1969 (purple cover) kingdom interlinear.
it is the one with the blatant mantey misquotes - you know - the ones that he fired off a letter regarding and demanded they remove mention of him and a public apology.. just thought i would share .... -ithinkisee

I have that Interlinear! Do you know where I can find the Mantey info? I'd like to copy it and tuck it inside.
See the 1969 Interlinear, page 1159, right hand column, first paragraph.
See also Dr. Julius R. Mantey and the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society
